Prophylactics of duodenal ulcer exacerbation with low-level laser therapy

Abstract: 494 patients with an uncomplicated form of duodenal ulcer disease were followed-up during 10 years (1993-2002). All patients were divided into two groups. The studied (I) group had 176 patients who were prescribed medicamentous and laser therapy (with recurrences - 249 cases). The control (II) group had 318 patients who were prescribed only medicamentous therapy (with recurrences - 649 cases). Laser therapy with low-level laser light in combination with medicamentous therapy which was prescribed during the disease exacerbation has brought better long-term results comparing to the control group. Even more effective are laser therapy prophylactic courses during remission. They considerably reduce an incidence of recurrences and complications. The remission period has been prolonged twice; in some patients clinical remission was seen for many years
